Alum, commonly know as Fitkari in Hindi, It is typically white and colorless, do not have any odor or leave any stain on clothes or surfaces.
However, this whitish-colorless crystal has been used for its various beneficial qualities over centuries. In a few countries like Russia, it is also called "crystal Soap" and is widely used for its multiple benefits. Many medicinal properties of alum are also mentioned in our Ayurveda

Here are a few benefits of Alum!

1) Deodorant  -  Alum has been used as a deodorant and antiperspirant for many years. Alum is used in our deodorant as well because of its antibacterial properties, which prevent the growth of bacteria of our skin, it is the bacteria only which causes a bad smell. You could either rub a wet alum piece on your underarms or dust a little alum powder in your armpits. As described it works by killing the bacteria that cause body odor, you should, however, use alum for this, every alternate day.

2) The beauty of Skin
- By washing the face with alum or by applying a paste of alum on the skin, the skin is clean. By the regular use of it, all the spots of the skin get erased and the skin gets improved.

3) Acne Pimples - Ayurvedic practitioner recommend alum for treating acne pimples, Put alum solution on the acne spots for 20 minutes and then wash it with clean water, it cures all the stains. You will see an improvement and glowing skin over a period of time.

4) Blackheads - Are you tired of ugly blackheads on your nose, make a past of alum powder with normal water or rose water and apply it on your blackheads leave it till it dries and washes off.

5) After Shave - Alum is used on cuts after shaving because of these styptic properties, Alum help stop bleeding from shaving cups, helps to heal the skin and adds a natural glow to it.

6) Mouth Blister - is a small, painful, ulcer inside the mouth. They may occur on the tongue, and inside the cheeks, lips, and throat. Put alum solution in the mouth blisters or wounds for 30 seconds and then rinse with clean water or wash the mouth two or three times a day, it cures mouth blisters.

7) Bad Breath -
Add one gram of alum and a pinch of rock salt to a glass of warm water, stir till they are dissolved, then rinse the mouth with it. Do not drink it: as it can make you nauseous.

8) Nose Bleeds - Soak a cotton ball in cold water, sprinkle one gram of fitkari (alum) on it, and press it to the site of nose bleed for few seconds. Do not close both nostrils at the same time

9) Water Purifier - Alum is very useful in removing impurities of the water. One liter of water can be cleaned with 6 mg of alum. Keep in mind that dissolving an excessive amount of alum in water can also have negative effects.
